Human Concerns ministry consists of these areas:
Gesu Human Concerns is composed of direct service, justice education, social action, twinning, parish health ministry, outreach and Respect Life. Human Concerns ministry functions within larger Gesu goals set forth by the Pastoral Council and staff. Social ministry works is close collaboration with our deanery partners most especially downtown, central city and east-side parishes; social justice staff at the Archdiocese; Marquette University Campus Ministry and College of Nursing; justice staff for the Jesuits; and also with our interfaith partners at Central City Churches and Common Ground.
Marcia Isherwood (Parish Nurse) and Peg Flahive (Director of Human Concerns) serve as Human Concerns staff members at Gesu. Feel free to contact them! Some examples of parishioner involvement include serving at the Saturday meal program, providing hospitality at the Cathedral Center Shelter, facilitating Ignatian Spirituality Project retreats for those who are homeless, St. Vincent de Paul, collecting baby items for the Women’s Care Center, visiting the sick and homebound, serving on committees, contacting legislators about social issues, fostering our Haiti twinning relationship, and participating in Common Ground. If you wish to be involved, please contact Peg or Marcia.
