Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
Christian Formation promotes and develops opportunities for a lifelong journey in personal conversion and growth in faith.
This commission is advisory and in support of the Pastor, and / or his designee(s), which may include but are not limited to the Director(s) of Formation in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of formation programs within the Parish. This includes Child/Family Formation, Youth/Adult Formation, Baptism and Marriage preparation and sacramental preparation. As appropriate and in support of complete formation the commission often collaborates with and supports Worship, Stewardship, Parish Life, and Human Concerns through workshops, parish events, liturgies, etc.
Members of the commission should include associate pastor or staff member responsible for RCIA, Director(s) of Christian Formation, pastoral council designee, and Standing Committee Chair(s) as appropriate and available.
This committee assists the Director of Child/Family Formation in program scheduling of classes, workshops, speakers, special events, in evaluating curriculum and launching program related activities.
The Youth Formation program at Gesu Parish provides faith formation and a better sense of faith community to teenagers in grades 9-12. These goals are accomplished through curricular guidelines established by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. In addition, teens in this program along with family members participate in a variety of liturgical, prayer and service opportunities that promote nurturing relationships between God, family and the community at large.
Adult religious formation is the process by which a person develops a mature faith relationship with God. Learning in faith is not simply a matter between God and the individual. Rather, it includes all occasions and opportunities that assist an adult in deepening their faith. At Gesu Parish, members and guests are encouraged to grow in relationship with God and one another through liturgical celebrations, sacramental life, the study of Scripture, Tradition, and Ignatian spirituality as well as participation on retreat opportunities that are offered during the Advent and Lenten seasons.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) includes formation, prayer and liturgical rites for those adults entering the Catholic Church, as well as for those adult Catholics and those of other Christian denominations completing full initiation into the Catholic Church. The process is led by sponsors, parishioners and staff member(s) and includes sacramental preparation, prayer, adult Christian formation and fellowship.
This committee assists the parish in effectively responding to the challenge to “Go and Make Disciples.” Committee members work with others in the parish to “bring about in all members such an enthusiasm for their faith that, in living their faith in Jesus, they freely share it with others.”
