You'll Never Know When You'll Save a Life

How's Monday, January 16 for the Gesu Blood Drive and Chili-fest? Appointments are available from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Fr. Herian Hall - Lower Level of the Parish Center.

Blood Donor and Volunteer Sign-up will take place in the back of church the weekend of January 7 & 8 or you can make your appointment online! Click here to sign up online.

Invite a friend to come with you and enjoy a hearty meal of chili with all the fixings. You may also E-mail Marcia Isherwood or call the Parish Center at 414-288-7101 to set an appointment.

Even if you cannot donate blood, we still need you; please consider sharing your time and energy for this important "gift of life." We can use volunteers to donate chili, whole grain bread, and to serve as hospitality ministers.



Chili donations
All types of chili are welcome. Traditional meat/beans chili, white chili (made with chicken), and vegetarian varieties are typical of enjoyed varieties of the past. E-mail Marcia Isherwood or call the Parish Center if you can donate chili.

Instructions:
  • Serving size of 8 to 10 persons is a guideline.
  • Deliver your chili donation to the main church on Sunday, January 15 (table labeled "Chili-fest") or to the Parish Center on Monday, January 16 anytime after 8:30 a.m.
  • Please put your name on your chili donation so that we might properly thank you.
  • Please bring your chili in the container of your choice – foil pan, Tupperware-type container, or crock pot. Be sure to label all containers that will need to be returned to you.
  • Your returnable items can be picked up from the lower level kitchen in the Parish Center anytime after the Blood Drive ends. Check the bulletin for Parish Center operating hours.


Whole Grain Bread Donations
In an effort to improve healthful benefits of our chili-fest meal, we are asking for hearty, whole grain breads to accomplany our chili. E-mail Marcia Isherwood or call the Parish Center if you can donate whole grain breads.

Instructions:
  • Serving size to feel approximately 10-12 persons.
  • Whole grain breads may be delivered to the Parish Center, lower kitchen during operating hours on Sunday, January 15 or on the morning of the Blood Drive, Monday, January 16.
  • Please put your name on the whole grain bread so we may properly thank you for you donation.


Hospitality Volunteers
Hospitality volunteers help greet and thank the blood donor registrants. In addition, they help serve blood drive refreshments to donors when they are done. Time slots are flexible; feel free to create your own time frame if needed. E-mail Marcia Isherwood or call the Parish Center if you can serve as a hospitality minister.





In order to donate blood, you must:
  • Be in good health
  • Be at least 17 years old. (16-year-olds may donate with parental consent), no upper age limit
  • Weigh at least 110 lbs.
  • Be free of major cold, flu, and allergy symptoms.
  • Not have had hepatitis after age 11.
  • Not have had risk factors/behaviors associated with HIV/AIDS.

Please bring a photo ID at the time of donation. If you have questions about your eligibility, or questions after your donation, visit the BloodCenter of Wisconsin's website or e-mail them and a staff member will get back to you within 48 hours.
